Program Overview
The emergency ultrasound fellowship at George Washington University is a one-year fellowship with a goal of training tomorrow’s leaders in the field of emergency ultrasound. The aim of the fellowship is to provide fellows with high-quality experiences in research, education, ultrasound program administration, and clinical sonography.
Components of the Fellowship
- Scanning shifts – dedicated time spent in the emergency department with ultrasound section faculty and independently to refine clinical ultrasound skills
- Quality assurance – every Monday, the ultrasound section meets to review all ultrasound images recorded in the prior week from GW University Hospital and Prince George’s Hospital Center emergency departments. This exposes the fellow to a broad range of pathology and teaches critical interpretation skills
- Ultrasound journal club – a monthly review of the emergency and critical care ultrasound literature
- Research – fellows will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing research projects and receive mentorship in taking their own project from idea through IRB and data collection to presentation at national/international meetings.
- Teaching/education – many opportunities to solidify ultrasound knowledge by teaching others, both at GW (medical students and residents) as well as at CME courses locally and internationally
- Joint Fellowship Curriculum – a comprehensive junior faculty curriculum and mentoring program for all emergency department fellows
